Assessing the Sustainable Development Goal 13 using GEE

by Caroline Mogollon Sotelo

Climate change, driven by rising greenhouse gases from human activities, poses a global threat with severe environmental and socio-economic impacts, such as rising temperatures, extreme weather, and ecosystem disruptions. To address this, the United Nations adopted SDG 13, aiming to reduce emissions, build resilience, and integrate climate action into national policies. This project focuses on Bogotá, Colombia, analyzing key climate variables using datasets like Landsat-8, Modis-NDVI, DEM, and CHIRPS to assess land cover changes, vegetation health, terrain characteristics, and precipitation patterns. The study supports sustainable land use, resource management, and disaster risk reduction to strengthen Bogotá’s climate resilience.
