Soil erosion is a complex and widespread form of land degradation that significantly reduces ecosystem services and functions. Water-induced erosion is the primary cause of soil deterioration worldwide, particularly affecting agricultural lands. Research highlights that farmland degradation is largely driven by soil erosion, emphasizing the need for further studies on its impact.
In Kyrgyzstan, despite the known significance of soil erosion, there is limited data available. The challenges in measuring soil erosion, combined with the region’s diverse landscape, varying climate, and land use practices, make it difficult and costly to study this critical issue.
