Malaria in Papua New Guinea

Rising temperatures in mountainous regions due to climate change have created new breeding grounds for insects, shifting malaria outbreaks to remote, hard-to-reach areas. A fragile health system and limited hospital network have worsened the crisis, as reflected in a report by the PNG Institute of Medical Research. Malaria cases surged nearly 12-fold between 2014 and 2019, driven by environmental changes and insufficient healthcare infrastructure.
