Flood Susceptibility Mapping

by Sodiq Ajadi

Urban flooding has emerged as a significant global challenge, impacting infrastructure, economies, and communities across diverse regions, from the arid landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico to the humid environments of Nigeria. In Nigeria, flash floods are particularly common during October and November, driven by the country’s topography and seasonal heavy rainfall. Addressing this issue requires effective tools like Geographical Information Systems (GIS), which play a crucial role in flood risk analysis. GIS provides a spatial dimension to data analysis, offering valuable insights that enhance urban planning and flood management efforts.
