Small communities often struggle with systematic data collection and storage without support from larger institutions. However, in Liguria, a region nestled between the Ligurian Alps and the Mediterranean, successful environmental monitoring has emerged. In Sanremo, a town of 60,000 inhabitants, increased monitoring has made risk assessment data widely accessible through platforms like the Italian Civil Protection, ISPRA, and Liguria’s Opendata portal. Visualizing environmental risks at the municipal level helps policymakers make informed decisions and raises public awareness.
